Trying Something New…

Today I decided to try yoga.

The class was called Wind Down Wednesday, and honestly, there were so many thoughts going through my head before I even got there. My initial thought was to turn around, go back home, and just say, “Forget it.”

Yoga was a completely new experience for me. I felt out of place. I didn’t think I was in good enough shape, and on top of that, I was alone—which only heightened my fears.

But I stayed.

The class was small, and the instructor was super welcoming and comforting, which immediately took the edge off. The lights were off, she played soft music, and she talked us through each pose. She made sure I was comfortable and even showed me modified ways to do the poses when I needed them.

That reassurance made such a difference.

And then came the hammock.

I’ll be honest… using a hammock during yoga was frightening! 😂 I wasn’t sure what to expect, and being suspended in the air definitely pushed me outside of my comfort zone. But somehow, it turned into one of the most incredible parts of the experience.

The entire class was so relaxing. I went in feeling anxious and uncomfortable, but as the class went on, I found myself letting go and actually enjoying being there.

The class was definitely challenging, but I pushed through.

And two things happened today.

First, I overcame my fear.

I didn’t allow the negative thoughts and preconceived ideas I had about yoga to stop me from trying.

Second, I proved to myself that I can do hard things.

I walked into that class carrying what felt like the weight of the world on my shoulders, and somehow, I walked out feeling like I was on cloud nine.

I felt lighter.

I felt proud of myself.

And most importantly, I felt like I had done something for me.

Something that had nothing to do with being a mom, being a partner, or being there for someone else.

Just Dej.

And apparently… Dej might like yoga. 😂

I enjoyed the experience so much that I already booked classes for next Monday and Wednesday.

So I guess we’re doing this!

One new experience at a time. 💛

⭐ Dej’s Verdict

Did I like it? Absolutely!
Would I do it again? Clearly—I already booked two more classes. 😂
What did I learn? Fear doesn’t always mean “don’t do it.” Sometimes it means “try anyway.”
The unexpected favorite: The hammock!
