I Went Anyway

Hey guys!

It’s been a while since my last post, but guess what…

Dej did a thing! 😂

I found a Ladies Pajama Night event on Facebook, bought a ticket, and decided to go by myself!

The theme was based on the movie How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and honestly, it was an absolutely amazing night.

Now, of course, buying the ticket earlier in the week didn’t mean I was automatically going to go. 😂

Come the day of the event, I started doing what I normally do—talking myself out of it.

I was tired from working all week and started thinking, “I could just stay home and get some rest.”

But when I mentioned it to my oldest daughter, she basically told me, “No. You need to get out. You’ve been working all week.”

So… I listened.

I literally bought my pajamas at 6:30 PM, and the event started at 8:00 PM. 😂

When I walked in, there was already a group of women taking pictures in front of the photo signs the owner had made. I waited and let the ladies take their pictures, and then I asked one of the women if she would take mine.

And she did!

There was also a woman at the snack table, and we made some small talk. There were inflatable chairs on the floor, and we got to choose wherever we wanted to sit.

So I picked a spot next to someone I didn’t know.

And she was nice!

There was a guy at the table checking everyone in and giving us wristbands. There was also a DJ playing music before the movie started, and we were free to just mix and mingle until the movie began.

I got myself a drink, grabbed some snacks, picked my spot, and continued making small talk with the woman sitting next to me.

And you know what?

I felt really good.

I wasn’t sitting there wishing I had someone with me. I wasn’t uncomfortable enough to want to leave. I was just… there.

Enjoying myself.

The movie didn’t start until 9:10, so there was plenty of time to relax and take everything in.

We had snacks, signature drinks, photo props, and everyone was dressed in different shades of blue pajamas.

Once the movie started, I was completely into it. 😂

I laughed at the funny parts, and every time the leading man came on screen, the owner would yell, “OH WINSTON!”

It was hilarious! 😂

The whole atmosphere was fun, relaxed, and welcoming.

And the owner was so sweet. When I first arrived, she came over and gave me a hug, which honestly helped me relax and feel more comfortable.

The crazy part is that I almost didn’t go.

I almost let being tired become the reason I stayed home.

I almost let that familiar voice in my head convince me that staying in my comfort zone was easier.

But I went.

And I’m so glad I did.

When I left, I felt proud.

I felt really good—almost like the feeling I get after yoga. Like I was floating on air.

And I think that’s because this wasn’t just about going to a pajama party.

It was another moment where I could have talked myself out of doing something, but I didn’t.

I showed up.

I put myself in a room full of women I didn’t know.

I asked someone to take my picture.

I made small talk.

I sat next to a stranger.

I laughed.

I enjoyed myself.

And I didn’t need someone to come with me in order to have a good time.

I think that’s becoming one of the biggest discoveries I’ve made about myself lately.

I’m learning that I can go places by myself.

I can meet new people.

I can be uncomfortable and still stay.

I can try something new without knowing exactly how it’s going to turn out.

And sometimes, the biggest discovery isn’t whether I liked the thing I tried.

Sometimes, it’s discovering what happens when I just go anyway.

So here’s to another little adventure, another new experience, and another reminder that maybe Dej is finally getting her groove back. 😂💙

One little discovery at a time.
