Weekend Recap: Solo, But Not Alone

Hey guys!

It’s been a week/weekend, so let me share a few updates and experiences I had.

Friday was technically the kids’ last day before the Labor Day weekend break, but after working all week and driving from one side of town to the other constantly, everyone was given a mental health reset day!

I had a meeting for work that lasted about an hour, and afterward I got dressed and went to happy hour solo.

I had great food, a few drinks, and met some new people and had some small conversations. Which was big for me because normally, when I’m out and people try to interact with me, I tend to overthink it or have some negative thoughts that turn a completely innocent interaction awkward!

Saturday, I took myself to see Ali Siddiq, who’s a comedian, and had an amazing time solo.

I bought myself a drink, danced when the DJ played music, received several compliments on my outfit, and managed to make some small talk with some other beautiful women.

Riding home in my Uber, I realized two things: I genuinely enjoy my own company, and I enjoy doing things by myself.

Would it be ideal to have someone go with me every now and then? Absolutely! However, I’d much rather move at my own speed and do the things I want to do without feeling forced to change plans or do something someone else might want to do that I dislike.

And to end the week and start the new week off fresh, I attended my second yoga class, which was called Mindful Monday.

Not going to lie, it was tough doing some of the poses, such as planks and balancing on a block while stretching. There were moments when I was starting to feel defeated and wanted to give up and walk out…

That’s that negative self-talk I’m used to.

But I quickly reminded myself that it’s okay to take a break if I need to. It’s okay not to get the poses perfectly, and it’s even okay to modify them if that’s going to make me more comfortable.

The biggest takeaway was that it was hard. It was something I’d never experienced before, and it was completely different from the last class.

I wanted to quit, but I didn’t.

When I felt overwhelmed, I stopped for a second and then started right back up.

Overall, I am proud!

I stuck it out. I saw it through, and I know that in the long run, if I continue, it’ll get easier.

All in all, my week was hectic. I felt overwhelmed by my constant day-to-day roles and responsibilities, but I made it a point to take a day for me to reset and regroup.

I didn’t feel guilty.

I actually feel pretty proud because I realized that by creating a healthy balance between what I have to do and stopping to love on me some, I became a much calmer and softer mom this week/weekend.

And honestly… that’s a discovery worth paying attention to. ๐Ÿ’›

Dejโ€™s Verdict

Did I enjoy my own company?
Absolutely! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Would I do things solo again?
Clearly! Friday and Saturday proved I can have a great time all by myself.

What did I learn?
Being alone doesn’t mean I’m lonely. Sometimes, being alone gives me the freedom to just be me.

Biggest challenge:
That negative self-talk during yoga. I wanted to quit, but I reminded myself that I didn’t have to be perfect. I just had to keep going.

Biggest discovery:
Taking time for myself doesn’t make me a selfish mom. It actually makes me a calmer, happier, softer version of myself.

Rating for the weekend: 9/10 โญ

Apparently, Dej likes hanging out with Dej. ๐Ÿ˜‚

And I’m okay with that.

One new experience, one little discovery, and one step closer to finding me. ๐Ÿ’›
